A masa ball on a plain plate often squashes into a wedge because the hinge tilts. We cast this press in aluminum and added a column bearing with spacers, so the upper plate drops flat across the dough. It keeps the counter quiet and the thickness consistent.
Adjustable center column
Stack the included gaskets on the center post to set dough depth. Run it bare for thin wrappers, or add spacers across four steps when pressing thicker rounds for arepas or mini pie crusts.
Bearing in the hinge
We put a bearing inside the pivot column where the top plate meets the arm. The handle turns smooth without the metal-on-metal squeak common on dry cast iron tools, bringing the face down level.
Parchment on the plates
Tear two squares of parchment or wax paper to sandwich your dough before pressing down. That keeps masa from sticking to the black finish and lets you peel the raw rounds off cleanly for the pan.
Beyond corn tortillas
The varied gap heights let you handle different dough types on the same block. Use the deeper setting for rotis, tostones, and empanada bases, or drop down to flatten thin dumpling skins.
