Is the chain in the box

No. A hanger carton holds the hangers, the lag screws sized for them and a paper drilling template. Chain, rope, seats and S hooks are separate. The bracket kits are the exception: those arrive with seats and chain already matched.

What does over 5,000 lb actually mean

It is a rig figure for the casting on its own. It is not a rating for your beam, your screws or your swing, and no standard sets it. We keep one page on that: what the numbers mean.

Lag screws or through bolts

A lag is quicker and is what most people use in a sound beam. A through bolt is the stronger answer where you can reach both faces of the wood, and it is the one to pick if the beam is older or you cannot see the far side. The note on lag or through bolt walks through both.

How far apart do the holes go

Published plans disagree, which is worth knowing before you trust one of them. Figures in circulation run from 12 to 24 inches on centre, and the CPSC handbook asks for 20 inches of clear air between seats measured at 5 feet. We printed the four layouts side by side in spacing on the beam rather than averaging them into one wrong answer.

Will these work on a tree branch

A hanger bolts to flat dressed lumber. A living branch moves, grows over hardware and hides rot, and a bolt through it is a wound that does not close. If a tree is the only option, read tree or frame first.

How tight should the S hook be

Closed to a gap no wider than four hundredths of an inch, which is roughly the thickness of a dime. An open hook works a chain link loose slowly and then all at once. See S hooks and the gap.

Do the insoles do anything for my feet

They keep them warmer. Sheepskin traps air, and trapped air is what stops the cold of a floor coming through a sole. That is the whole claim. They are not arch support, they are not orthotics, and we make no claim about any foot condition.

Can the press go in the dishwasher

No. It is cast iron with a seasoned surface and a dishwasher strips that surface straight off. Wipe it, dry it on the hob, rub a little oil over it. Press and cook covers the rest.
